From our friends at Charleston Climate Coalition…
Okay, folks, it’s gametime.
The Charleston County Climate Action Plan is currently slated to go up for a vote on June 18th. This CAP is an incredibly important platform — it’ll enable hundreds of millions in Inflation Reduction Act funds to flow through the Lowcountry, and set us up for future victories in public transportation, walk & bike infrastructure, green buildings, clean energy, and more.
Here’s what you can do:
Sign the Petition — https://tinyurl.com/chscountycap
Share the Petition — either directly with friends, through Action Network, or through social media!
Come to an Action Session — again, CCC May Meeting Wednsday 5/29 at the ILA Hall, 1142 Morrison Drive! We’ll be coming together to share the latest on the fight and to take action in the room.
Help Get Business and Organization Sign-ons — if you have a connection to a local business owner or organizational leader, please pass on our letter sign-on page. Business letter; organization letter.
You can also view the entire County CAP at the Charleston Resiliency and Sustainability Dept. website, or check out the CAP Actions.

ACT NOW:
The Sierra Club and Environmental Integrity Project will be hosting a community information session about last year’s air pollution violation (called Aluminum Oxide) by Century Aluminum Inc in Goose Creek. They will go over how it relates to the current 2024 air permit modification request by Century. This will be done in light of the Township of Goose Creek hosting a Town Hall session next week on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 6:00 pm to accept written and verbal comments on the requested significant modification to the Air Operating Permit. The hearing will be held at Council Chambers at City Hall (519 N Goose Creek Blvd, Goose Creek, SC). Doors will open at 5:30 pm to facilitate the sign-in process and provide an opportunity to meet DHEC staff.
